Tea in Context

The study deepens into an endless rabbit hole with countless books and resources: where to begin?

May as well start with the history of tea. Below are a couple starting points.

From there, explore Garden to Gaiwan, an agroforestry farm-to-table approach to tea.

It's our ethos of sourcing, as well as our guidelines to building understanding.

The History of Tea

Original Ecology and Indigenous Lifeways

We source tea from the mountain forests in Yunnan Province, the most ecologically and culturally diverse region in China. We strive to highlight and support these mountains and the peoples that steward them.
To understand more about what is happening at the source, we recommend the work of Theasophie, located in the Jingmai Mountains of southwest China, which were recently inscribed into UNESCO World Heritage as the world's oldest and largest tea agroforestry site. Theasophie is profoundly committed to the work of ecological and cultural sterwardship. They provide support and mentorship to Deep Creek and are doing more than anyone we know to bring the lifeways of Yunnan's tea mountains to the West.
